Japanese government grants over 70 billion yen in AI subsidies

The Ministry of Economy recently promised to fund the development of supercomputers to help five companies working in the AI sector.

Generative AI (artificial intelligence) is developing rapidly, and needs are growing in every country.

However, its growth requires “supercomputers” capable of processing information rapidly. In Japan, there is little national infrastructure in place, with AI development dependent on large American companies.

Against this backdrop,Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) recently pledged to subsidize five companies to the tune of 72.5 billion yen to boost AI development.

According to officials, this decision is part of a drive to develop supercomputers by local companies, but also to ensure the country's economic security.

Details will be announced shortly.
