Jean Todt Presents the Global “Make A Safety Statement” Campaign at CCI France Japon

On September 16, 2025, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (CCI France Japon) had the honor of welcoming Jean Todt, United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, for a CEO Breakfast Conference held in Tokyo.
A former iconic leader of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Jean Todt now works alongside the United Nations to raise awareness among the public and policymakers on a global issue: road safety. Every year, road accidents cause nearly 1.3 million deaths worldwide.
A Global Campaign in Partnership with JCDecaux
During his presentation at CCI France Japon, Jean Todt introduced the new global campaign #MakeASafetyStatement, launched by the United Nations in partnership with JCDecaux.
The campaign was unveiled on September 12 at Expo 2025 Osaka, alongside Japanese Olympic skateboarding champion Cocona Hiraki, before being displayed at the United Nations Pavilion (September 12-15). It is also being rolled out across 10 cities and airports in Japan: Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Kawasaki, Kobe, Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo, and Yokohama.
The goal is clear: to engage citizens on the importance of simple, responsible actions while driving, riding a motorcycle or bicycle, or walking, and to remind everyone that each of us can contribute to saving lives.
Renowned Ambassadors
The campaign features internationally recognized faces to amplify this universal message. Among them is Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, also Jean Todt’s spouse, who lends her image to the initiative to enhance its impact with the public.
An Exclusive Interview with Jean Todt
Following the conference, CCI France Japon had the privilege of conducting an exclusive interview with Jean Todt, together with Régis Arnaud, editor-in-chief of France Japon Eco and journalist at Le Figaro.
This conversation allowed for an in-depth discussion of road safety challenges, as well as a reflection on the importance of international cooperation in promoting safer infrastructure and responsible behavior.
Through this campaign and his tour in Japan, Jean Todt reminds us that the road concerns everyone, and that road safety is not optional—it is a shared responsibility.
