After the success of the “Tohoku Appeal Event” in 2024, it's the turn of the “OECD Education2030 Project Infinity”!
Following the earthquake on March 11, 2011, in Japan and the ensuing nuclear accident, Fukushima University, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the OECD decided to create the “Tohoku School”, days dedicated to sharing and bringing students together.
Above all, these events enabled children who had lived through the disaster to make new friends, to rebuild the school as a place to live, to rediscover the essential values of life, and to build a new world based on the use of renewable energies.
The project culminated in an event in August 2014 - the Tohoku Appeal Event in Paris - which took place on the Champs de Mars in Paris. Students from all over the world mobilized for the occasion. The event was introduced by a speech from the city of Paris,the Japanese Ambassador to France as well as representatives from the OECD. The days were punctuated by animations, dances, cultural events (Tachibana)...
10 years on, the OECD has decided to carry out a new project for education: “OECD Education2030 Project Infinity.” The project was led by students from Japan and Canada. Its aim is to enable students from different countries to create collaborative products, which could help improve well-being at school and within communities.
The project currently involves 112 schools in 24 countries, with 30 Japanese schools taking part. A Summit for the project will be held this December at the OECD offices, to present the products created in collaboration and discuss future education with actors from around the world, based on the real experiences of students and teachers through “Project Infinity.”
The “OECD Education2030 Project Infinity” is an extremely important milestone: this year marks the 60th anniversary of Japan's membership of the OECD, and the Japanese committee wishes to remember achievements such as the “Tohoku School” and also show its solidarity for people in crisis situations, such as in Noto after the earthquake or in Ukraine, in Paris.
