ONIS : A sucessfull prospecting mission that turns into a V.I.E
A testimonial by Adriana Saikali, VIE at ONIS, a company specializing in manufacturing equipment for industrial piping operations.
Founded in 1979, ONIS is a company specializing in the design and manufacture of equipment dedicated to industrial piping operations. For more than forty years, the company has been developing solutions that enable fast, safe, and repeatable interventions, carried out by a single operator and requiring no tools. With over 12,000 devices deployedworldwide, ONIS has built a strong reputation for reliability, supported by an international network of engineers committed to continuously improving the safety, performance, and profitability of industrial assets.
The company’s flagship product, the Quick Action Line Blind (QLB), is designed to replace spectacle blinds and figure-eight blinds. The QLB ensures absolute isolation between upstream and downstream, without the use of bolts or nuts. It therefore guarantees optimal sealing while significantly reducing downtime during line blinding operations.
Designed for critical applications, ONIS solutions primarily serve the oil and gas sector, including refineries, compression units, and pipeline management systems. They are capable of operating under extreme conditions, ranging from –120°C to 650°C and up to 420 bar (6,000 PSI).
As part of its international development strategy, ONIS naturally turned to Japan, a market renowned for its stringent standards in industrial safety and performance. In 2021, despite a particularly challenging health and economic context, the company took part in an initial prospecting mission organized with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (CCIFJ). This initiative made it possible to identify a local partner and lay the foundations for a gradual market entry, which materialized in 2024 with the recruitment of a VIE in Japan to sustainably support business development and strengthen local relationships.

Following the mission carried out with the CCIFJ in 2021, we identified a local partner and continued our outreach to Japanese companies. Building on the success of this mission, I was recruited as a VIE for ONIS in Japan in September 2024.
We were also very satisfied with the support provided by the CCIFJ during this initial market entry mission, especially given the particularly challenging context at the time.
After one year of a VIE assignment in Japan, we have identified strong potential in the Japanese market. The philosophy of continuous improvement and the priority given to industrial process safety—deeply rooted in Japanese culture—are perfectly aligned with the values and benefits of ONIS solutions. We are confident that our equipment, fully compliant with Japanese standards, meets the most stringent market requirements. Building on this first phase, ONIS now aims to strengthen its presence in Japan by increasing brand awareness and continuing to adapt its offerings to the specific needs of local industries. »
