Highlights from our tasting evening featuring rums from France’s overseas territories.
On June 25, 2026, CCIFJ members gathered at the CCI France Japon office in Osaka for a convivial evening dedicated to discovering rums from France's overseas territories. Organized in collaboration with J'imagine Japan, the event featured students from Martinique, Réunion and other regions currently undertaking internships in Japan through the organization's program.
Through their presentations, these young talents offered participants an immersion into the world of sugar cane, from the origins of rum in France’s overseas territories to the diversity of French rum traditions. By sharing their knowledge and personal experience, they helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the expertise, history, and cultural richness that shape these spirits.
Guiding guests through a tasting of 12 rums from Martinique and Réunion, the students explained the distinctive characteristics of each spirit, from terroirs and production methods to tasting notes and serving recommendations. The experience was complemented by a selection of specialties from the French overseas territories, including fresh tropical fruits and accras, offering participants a true culinary journey.
