“Capitalism for good’, “Impact investment”, “Effective altruism”… these new concepts are radically changing the way companies and individuals improve society. Rather than attacking for-profit capitalism, they use capitalism’s “best practices” to help those mired in poverty, from nearby children (like charity organization Save the children) to faraway individuals looking for a small loan that would immensely change their life (like leading microfinance company Gojo & Company).

With the support of leading companies and individuals, Taejun Shin, founder of Gojo & Company, and Akiko Takai, Deputy Secretary General of Save the Children Japan, have radically changed the life of hundreds of thousands of people in Japan and abroad by their tireless work. Join us on April 22 for a truly inspiring evening.

Speakers

  • Taejun Shin founded Gojo & Company in 2014, which provides a Tokyo-based holding company of inclusive financial services in 13 countries of Asia and Africa. Gojo Group serves more than 3.4 million clients worldwide, through over 10,000 employees and a portfolio of 744 million USD loans.
Taejun also founded the Japan Office for Standards on Children’s Services, an independent nonprofit that evaluates and inspects child welfare institutions in Japan, including orphanages and residential care homes. Its role is to provide third-party assessments of the quality of care, safety, and living conditions, helping to introduce greater transparency and accountability into Japan’s child protection system.

  • Akiko Takai is the Deputy Secretary General of Save the Children Japan. Save the Children’s mission is to ensure that children survive, learn, and are protected, especially in vulnerable and crisis-affected regions. The organization operates in more than 100 countries, providing humanitarian aid, education, healthcare, nutrition, and protection services. Save the Children responds to emergencies such as wars, natural disasters, and refugee crises, while also running long-term development programs focused on education, child protection, and poverty reduction.
