The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has revised last year its party rules to extend term limits for its leaders to nine years instead of six. Adding the time of his first term (2006-2007) to that of his current (from September 2012 to September 2018), a 3-year extension of duty would make Shinzo Abe the longest serving Prime minister. Which presupposes that, in spite of the Kake and Moritomo scandals, the Prime Minister would have still decided to run.
But, if not, who can succeed him?
Dan Harada, a naturalized citizen, member of the LDP and founder of the Nagatacho Forum which is since 1987 the leading political consultancy firm, will give us clues to understand this current issue.
About the speaker
Dan Harada, raised in Paris and naturalized Japanese citizen, is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, where he remains the only foreign born member.
He founded in 1987 the Nagatacho Forum, an advisory firm which assists foreign governments and companies in their relations with Japanese legislators and businesses.
