ALL FOR NOTO: An evening of support and celebration
“YES TO NOTO”: that was the message of support to the Noto Peninsula the CCI France Japon helped convey on May 20 at the prestigious Andaz Hotel. On January 1st, an earthquake devastated this mythical part of Japan, provoking hundreds of deaths and thousands of refugees. It stroke a terrible blow to a an economic ecosystem made of craftsmen, farmers, hotels and chefs that is just being rediscovered as Japan’s new “destination”. While reconstruction has begun, the removal of debris itself may not be finished before March 2026, according to government estimates. Noto needs all the help it can find.
EsQuisse chef Lionel Beccat and top caterer Fuji Bussan’s Matthieu Taussac had prepared a unique “Noto-centric”, under the friendly supervision of Noto chefs Toshiya Ikehata and Meiju Hirata. The Andaz team, led by manager Guillaume Paupy and Chef Julien Piguet, were all hands on deck. Wine distributor Louis Jadot and its Japan importer Nippon Liquor had provided a rare bottle of its signature wine Clos des Ursules. Vranken had brought fine Pommery champagne bottles, and Andaz had provided not only the spectacular location but also a selection of very fine wines.
50 participants up of French, Japanese and other nationalities, turned up, all bound by the wish to contribute, albeit a little, to the reconstruction of Noto. In the end, organizers collected 756.000 yens, to be used by NGO Hokuriku Mirai Foundation. There is no doubt that Noto will be famous again as one of Japan’s best places to live. Thank you to all participants for making this evening possible
