“Eiffel – Toujours plus haut”: the astounding story of how Gustave Eiffel managed to build his famous tower

Savin Yeatman-Eiffel’s lecture will unveil the hidden story behind the construction of the Eiffel Tower by his ancestor, Gustave Eiffel. Drawing on rare archival documents, he will highlight the forgotten struggles the visionary engineer had to overcome to win acceptance for his project—and then to bring to life a structure nearly twice as tall as anything built before. Eiffel’s audacious gamble remains a timeless lesson in innovation and resilience—one that continues to inspire our future.

Savin will conclude his lecture with a brief presentation of the exhibition “Eiffel – Toujours plus haut, cap sur l’avenir!”, coming to the Tokyo Tower in the fall of 2026, for which he serves as curator.
