Congratulations to Miyawaki Baisen’an for their 200 years!

[Translate to Anglais:] Baisen'An 200 ans

2 centuries of activity, it is something. In France as well as in Japan, a traditional craft’s longevity is something we value deeply. Craftsmanship rooted in decades of practice, in history and tradition, it is what produces a unique touch.

Our member Miyawaki Baisen’an of Kyoto is one of those guardians and makers of an ancient art, and at a time when the annoying insect-like whirr of small electric plastic personal ventilators are buzzing our ears all summer, Baisen’an prefers to promote the majestic flap of a wooden fan’s wing. Flowers, plants, birds, fishes and other geometrical shapes are common designs, and those are drawn individually by the hand of a master, making each piece a unique work of art.

One of those masters is the talented Ayuko Sadaie, who's floral designs will be displayed exclusively from May 19 to May 30, 2023 at Baisen'an's Kyoto main shop, with the support of local CCIFJ Ambassador Seishirō Hayashi, as a celebration for its 200th anniversary. 200 years of perseverance, dedication and transmission of rare skills.

If you come by Kyoto, make sure to visit their shop.
