It finally happened. According to the World Bank, South Korea’s GDP (per capita) has surpassed Japan’s since 2019.

In a recent article, economist Richard Katz argues that poor productivity and lack of redistribution are behind this poor performance. In Studio CCI, he explains what South Korea does well and Japan does not, and gives reasons to hope reform is around the corner.
