Ema OKAMOTONishijin Okamoto Okamoto Orimono Co., Ltd Executive Managing Director

Okamoto Ema

Originally from the northern region of Sapporo, Ema Okamoto specialized in textile design before joining the century-old workshops of Okamoto Orimono, founded by her husband’s great-grandfather. She began her career as head of design before taking on leadership roles within the company, established in 1909 and specialized in the weaving of luxurious “kinran” silk textiles for temples and shrines across Japan.

Despite the challenges posed by the decline of traditional weaving looms, rising raw material costs, and decreasing domestic demand, Okamoto Orimono continues to refine its techniques and pursue new collaborations in order to connect tradition with the future of weaving. Combining technical mastery and the exceptional quality of silk with the exploration of new patterns inspired by distant cultures and aesthetics, Ema Okamoto now works to bring this weaving art into the worlds of luxury architecture and interior design, both in Japan and internationally.
