Ama divers of Mie prefecture are performing a thousand(s) years old craft: traditional free-diving to retrieve shells and other products from the sea.
Like many other traditional craftspeople of Japan, their technique, as well as their products, are unique, and their population is aging. Front-line witnesses of the effect of the climate change on the sea, they have a lot to say about it, and Toba city's tourism department is supporting them as part of their cultural heritage.
This presentation of their work, product and observations will be followed, as usual, by a free discussion and a light friendly drink.
Program
18:30- Door opening, introduction, networking
18:45- Presentation of techniques, products and challenges of the Ama divers
19:30- Free discussion, apéro
20:30- End of event
This program will be exceptionally available online and from Nagoya.
After a few experiences both in France and abroad in the field of humanitarian international cooperation, Pauline Casaux is now working for the coastal city of Toba as an International Relation Coordinator. Among other responsibilities, she is in charge of public relations as well as promoting the city's touristic activities.
