Fauchon grocery announced buyout by Galapagos group

The famous grocery store on rue de la Madeleine in Paris has been acquired by the Breton Galapagos group.

Fauchon has been acquired by Galapagos, headed by Jérôme Tacquard.

“There is a lot in common between the two entities, a sharing of values and an anchoring in French haute gastronomy,” he explains in an interview with the newspaper Ouest France.

The Fauchon grocery store is known as the emblem of Place Madeleine in Paris, but also for its stores all over the world. However, the brand has been weakened by the health crisis.

The Galapagos group is famous for its Biscuits roses de chez Fossier, Gavottes (crêpes dentelles) and Traou Mad (cookies), and also owns Mademoiselle de Margaux and Moulin du Pivert (organic cookies). It generates annual sales of close to 125 million euros.

This acquisition will strengthen Galapagos’ international presence: Fauchon is present in over 15 countries with more than 80 points of sale, and also runs two 5-star hotels (Paris and Kyoto).

“We already generate 20% of our sales internationally, and the arrival of Fauchon in the family group, with its strong synergies, will enable us to pursue this development and continue to promote France and its gourmet products,” commented Jérome Tacquard.
