HORIBA Acquires South Korea’s EtaMax to Strengthen Semiconductor Business

HORIBA Group, through its subsidiary HORIBA STEC Korea, has completed the acquisition of South Korean company EtaMax, based in Suwon. EtaMax specializes in wafer inspection systems for the compound semiconductor market.

The company develops equipment using photoluminescence technology to detect microscopic defects and assess wafer uniformity — a key process in the production of next-generation power semiconductors, widely used in electric vehicles and data centers.

With this acquisition, HORIBA aims to integrate its own spectroscopic technologies, such as Raman spectroscopy and ellipsometry, with EtaMax’s software expertise to offer more advanced inspection solutions. The goal is to improve production yields and strengthen quality control for compound semiconductors.

This strategic move aligns with HORIBA’s MLMAP 2028 management plan, which targets ¥235 billion in sales by 2028 in the advanced materials and semiconductor field.
