The Ambassador of France to Japan Visits CL by C. Lemaire in Kyoto

On January 27, 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen, Ambassador of France to Japan, visited CL Fashion & Café in Kyoto, the concept store of the Japanese brand CL by C. Lemaire. The visit highlights the growing interest in initiatives that promote cultural ties between France and Japan through fashion, craftsmanship, and equestrian culture.

The Ambassador was welcomed by Christophe Lemaire, internationally renowned French jockey and co-founder of the brand, together with Chinami Hiraoka, President and CEO of CL by C. Lemaire. Ms. Sandrine Mouchet, Consul General of France in Kyoto, was also present.

During the visit, the Ambassador discovered the world of CL by C. Lemaire, built on the meeting of Japanese craftsmanship and horse racing culture. The brand seeks to redefine horse racing as a cultural and aesthetic expression, offering fashion pieces inspired by the jockey’s world and entirely made in Japan.

Based in Japan for over ten years, Christophe Lemaire is now one of the leading figures in Japanese horse racing. Holder of a permanent JRA license, he was named Jockey of the Year in 2025 and continues to compete at the highest level.

Through its collections and concept store, CL by C. Lemaire positions itself as a bridge between French and Japanese cultures, while also embracing a social and sustainable approach, notably by supporting organizations dedicated to retired racehorses.
