MORPHEE+: a real-time fall detection system serving patients and healthcare facilities

Morphée+, founded on May 3, 2018 in Dijon, develops and markets the electromagnetic device of the same name: a real-time monitoring and fall detection system that enhances the safety and well-being of residents in nursing homes (EHPAD – Residential Care Facilities for Dependent Elderly People) as well as patients living at home.
In 2014, Bruno Duperrier, Chief Executive Officer of the company CERIG and an expert in the field of senior care, came up with the idea of confronting the current and future needs of elderly people with the technologies available at the time. Thus, the innovative Morphée+ project was born. It is the only fall detection system that protects the privacy of elderly individuals and the confidentiality of care procedures—thanks to the absence of image capture—while also addressing the issue of forgetting or rejecting wearable sensors, which are often invasive for patients.
Beyond instantly alerting caregivers or healthcare professionals to falls and worrying health parameters, the Morphée+ device helps reduce healthcare-related costs by anticipating the onset or worsening of illnesses and by automating part of data recording and monitoring.
Winner of the 2017 OCS Innovation Award (connected objects and health applications) in Dijon and the 2018 Jury’s Special Prize from the French Society of Telemedicine, SNITEM, and the Medicen competitiveness cluster—to name just a few—selected for the “innovation village serving living systems” at the 2017 Supélec TEDx conference, and chosen in February 2019 to join the X-UP accelerator at École Polytechnique, Morphée+ has a promising future ahead, both nationally and internationally.
A Franco-Japanese collaboration with a promising future
In November 2018, Morphée+ traveled to Tokyo—alongside other companies led by the Bourgogne–Franche-Comté delegation—to take part in the “100 SMEs” mission organized by CCI France Japan. It was during this mission that the Dijon-based company met its future partner, Z-Works, a Japanese firm specializing in IoT solutions, particularly for the medical and social care sectors. Subsequent exchanges allowed the two companies to build trust, identify strong complementarities, and naturally led to a shared desire to collaborate.
This partnership between Morphée+ and Z-Works is expected to result in even more reliable, innovative, and integrated solutions—a true “win-win” for both companies, but also “creating significant added value for patients, healthcare facilities, and various organizations in the medical and social sectors (mutual insurers, insurance companies, etc.),” according to Bruno Duperrier. “Without the ‘100 SMEs’ mission organized by CCI France Japan, there would have been no partnership in the Japanese archipelago,” the business leader told us, expressing his satisfaction with the services and support provided by the CCI France Japan teams. He emphasizes the “relevance and suitability” of the business meetings scheduled for his company during the event.
Bruno Duperrier extends particular thanks to Z-Works CEO Tatsuya Takahashi and his team for their trust, as well as to Pierre-Olivier Ghintran (Director of CCI International Bourgogne–Franche-Comté) for introducing him to the subtleties of the Japanese market and inspiring him to develop Morphée+’s activities in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The “100 SMEs” initiative, along with other events, made it possible to celebrate 2018 with distinction and professionalism—a year that marked the centenary of CCI France Japan (1918–2018) and the 160th anniversary of Franco-Japanese diplomatic and commercial relations.
